Details of the weather most commonly found in Puerto Rico would not be complete without mentioning the awesome power of their occasional summer storms. Hurricane season is, officially, from June first to November thirtieth. In reality, the most damaging storms generally hit in the months of August through December. Not to worry, though, satellite forecasts have become much improved, and can generally predict such storms with enough warning time to take the necessary precautions.
Puerto Rico's culture is something to be enjoyed. Complex and colorful, this culture is a unique blend of cultural and racial differences that owes its life to a history full of slavery and conquest. Taino Indian women were taken as brides, willing or not, when the Spanish peoples wanted to populate the island. Next came African slaves who were imported in order to maintain crops, mostly sugarcane, and build roads. Chinese, French, Italian, Lebanese and German all came together in this new place. In the late nineteenth century, Americans began to show up, and Spanish immigrants never really stopped. Easily the largest influx of people came in the nineteen sixties, when Castro took control and thousands of Cubans fled their home and ended up in Puerto Rico. All these peoples combined to create a wonderful mix of flavorful food and amazing music.
For the activity-centered vacationer, there is plenty to do. Beaches bordering the blue, blue water are perfect for swimming, sunbathing, sailing and even snorkeling. The waters themselves offer a wide range of activities to take part in. From scuba diving to sailing lessons, and even fishing, there is something to be had for just about any interest. Farther inland are national parks, forests, and rainforests in which you can get lost for the day, along with caves to explore and mountains to climb. Besides the country's natural abundance of beauty there are the expected nightclubs, museums, bars, casinos and lots and lots of shopping.
Puerto Rico has a mix of natural beauty, created beauty, and a culture worth studying for a decade or two. No matter what the interest, ability, or activity level, there is something for everyone in this country. When setting up your next vacation, why not try Puerto Rico resorts?
